This page belongs to one of my small production portfolios. I like to play around with different styles, depending on the project. Originaly, most of these characters were from an old comic I had back in highschool.

I posted more stuff on le blog

It beggars belief how gorgeous these drawings in general and characters in particular are.

RE: using the 'real' brush - the 'secret' is in NOT pulling the strokes, but in PUSHING THEM. That means: draw with a brush from the elbow, long strokes, wide sweeps and ALWAYS away from you. Rotate the drawing and ink away from you! Seriously!

With pencil and pen/nib/marker you PULL the strokes TOWARDS you, with brush it`s the opposite.

You`re welcome.
Learnt it in my mis-spent youth, couldn`t wrap my mind about the concept, went through frustrations etc. and later it was confirmed! Now I handle brush like a ballpoint pen, had a phase when I even wrote letters and filled forms with brush and India ink!!!

NB: on YouTube there are several clips about brush inking and some of the guys do it 'the usual way' and what`s more, they do it successfully. Good for them, I respect it. Any comfortable way is cool.

Speaking about comfort: `twould be great if they made thicker brushes, say, as the 'fountain brush' [ brush-pen gizmo ] because it`s easier to handle and there`s no need to wrap sellotape around the ferule [ nickel-made tube attached on wooden handle holding bristle at the other end ] and such.

yeah, Ive watched a few videos. Seems to me the most common one is the Winser Newton series7 #2. Its the one I use too, and Im allways satisfied with the variation I get in lines. I've never actually done that, though I my try it (the whole sellotape thing)

I`m not putting anything anymore, although I used to cut the lower 'grip' of used ballpoint pens and markers - but made of 'softer' [i.e. 'cuttable'] plastic to make brush holding more comfortable because I`ve got huge hands and bassist`s fingers -- and brush is a milimetre or two thicker than the toothpick.
I`m used to it all now. It works.

Even when your characters are standing still they've still got a pretty fun sense of moving. Like the reptile guy's smile. Great stuff!

At first I thought maybe it was a weird take on Chrono and Frog from Chrono Trigger.

Heehee I love the grumpy old man on the top corner.

You have really nice varied line width. Do you use a brush pen to ink?

lol thanks! Yeah I do use a brushpen, mostly for doodles and stuff, or quick sketches. I'm still in the process of learning how to use an actual brush. It's going to be a long while before I start using it efficiently.
